Noisy Creek Invests in Wages

Noisy Creek Announces Industry-Leading Wage Increase and Commitment to Collective BargainingSeattle, WA, October 3 – Noisy Creek, the parent company to alternative-weekly publications The Stranger and the Portland Mercury, and to EverOut and Bold Type Tickets, is proud to announce a significant wage increase for its journalists, editors, and staff across the company, effective immediately.All employees across Noisy Creek, including members of Noisy Union, will see a wage floor of $70,000. All writers, reporters, and producers in Noisy Union will see a wage increase of at least 20% above existing compensation levels. The investment makes Noisy Creek a leader in the Pacific Northwest for editorial compensation.“We are thrilled to announce this investment in our existing and future talent in our publications and across the company,” said Toby Crittenden, Noisy Creek’s Chief of Staff. “Local journalism has never been more important to our community and our writers and editors are at the heart of The Stranger and Mercury’s future.”“With this agreement, Noisy Creek management showed they’re willing to invest in workers,” said Ashley Nerbovig, Noisy Union’s president. “The union is proud of the solidarity we’ve built within our unit and with the community, and we plan to keep our momentum as we continue to bargain our first contract.”Noisy Creek and Noisy Union are committed to a continued negotiation over the next several months to reach the company’s first Collective Bargaining Agreement.Both publications, in Seattle and Portland, plan to announce growth in new editorial positions in the coming month.
